Now it's time to see the serious side!

With the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO) being sponsored by the Royal Air Force, we expect high standards of dress and discipline.

After your initial training (Bloodhound Flight) you will be issued your uniform, this is the same as the RAF differing only by the beret badge and a brassard. You will learn how to march and be apart of a parade, this is known a Drill.

You will also participate in compulsory parades such as Remembrance Sunday, 222 (Broadlands) Sqn currently holds the honour of bearing the standards of both the squadron and Royal British Legion.

You will also learn how to teach basic subjects

Education

A great benefit of being an Air Cadet is that without realising you can finish your cadet service with real qualifications equivalent to upto 6 GCSE's grade A-C or even a level 2 certificate in leadership from ILM. This is acheived through the classification system. You will undertake examinations in subjects ranging from principles of flight to air navigation, these are examined on a yearly basis. If successful you will be awarded a classification, starting at First Class and rising to Staff Cadet.

In addition there's the Duke of Edinburgh Award that employers everywhere recognise as a great achievement. You can take on the challenge as part of your adventurous training, working your way up through the levels all the way to Gold - something to be really proud of.

First Aid

As well as the educational qualifications you can also gain a first aid certificate under the St Johns Ambulance 'Young First Aider scheme'.

You will learn basic life saving skills from resuscitation to dressing bleeds and burnsand how to make an emergency call to 999.
